An enterprise that was founded to give end of life vehicle tires a second chance
Vulca Technologies collects scrap tires from garages, mechanic workshops, landfills and dumpsites across Zimbabwe, then re-engineers them into rubber-based products that are useful in the construction sector. The enterprise is based in Marlborough, Harare. We mainly focus on dog bone interlocking paving bricks, speed humps and car mats.
Every year, millions of tires reach the end of the road; and nowhere else to go. What if they are given a second life
Zimbabwe alone generates more than two million of scrap tires annually. Only 15% is recycled and 85% is either dumped into landfills or burned. This has created a big environmental problem where acidic rain can leach out toxic substances into the soil which can later contaminate underground water. The Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care has cited that more than 70% of lung cancer victims are as a result of smoking from either cigarettes or contaminated air. Additionally, burning tires can contribute to carbon emissions into the atmosphere which can cause negative climate change. What if all this is overturned into building beautiful infrastructure in our country. That is what Vulca is doing.
We turn the most pressing environmental liability into products that are sustainable and environmentally friendly. We reduce the risk of lung cancer and we help avoid carbon emissions.
Vulca collects tires that would otherwise be burned or dumped, then mechanically recycle them, through a stagewise industrial process, into rubber paving bricks that are more durable than traditional cement and clay pavers. These products can last more than thirty years with minimal maintenance required. Additionally, we also manufacture speed humps for vehicles and car mats.
Collect
We source end-of-life tires directly from fleets, garages, retreaders and municipalities across our operating regions.
Process
Tires are shredded, de-wired and refined into uniform rubber crumb and granulate at our Harare facility.
Manufacture
Crumb rubber is bonded and pressed into paving bricks, tiles, mats and surfacing under quality-controlled conditions.
Deploy
Finished products ship to construction sites, schools, municipalities and retailers ready to install.

Our pavers are durable, lasting more than 30 years once installed, compared to cement and clay pavers that can barely reach 15 years with renovation costs. Rubber pavers are impact and weather resistant. They are easy to install, contains low carbon footprint and requires minimum to no maintenance. This is enough to choose us.
