From Waste to Possibility: Introducing Vulca Technologies

What if one of Zimbabwe's growing environmental challenges could become the foundation for something better?
Every day, thousands of vehicle tires reach the end of their useful lives. Many are dumped, left to accumulate in communities and open spaces, or burned, creating environmental and health concerns.
At Vulca Technologies, we believe these discarded tires should not be the end of the story.
We are a Zimbabwe-based circular-economy company transforming end-of-life vehicle tires into durable, useful products for construction and everyday use. Through mechanical recycling, we give waste tires a new purpose, turning a difficult environmental problem into an opportunity for sustainable economic value.
Turning Tires Into Something Useful
Our approach is simple in principle: collect discarded tires, process them mechanically, and transform the recovered rubber into products that can be used again.
Our product range includes interlocking paving bricks, vehicle mats, speed humps and other rubber-based products, with applications across construction, infrastructure and other sectors.
This is what a circular economy can look like in practice.
Instead of allowing valuable material to end up in dumpsites or be burned, we keep it in use for longer and create products that serve a practical purpose.
Why Tire Recycling Matters
Zimbabwe faces a significant tire-waste challenge. The project behind Vulca estimates that approximately 2.8 million vehicle tires reach the end of their life in Zimbabwe each year, with the majority currently dumped or burned.
Tires are particularly challenging waste materials because they do not simply disappear when discarded. When burned, they can release harmful compounds into the atmosphere. When left in the environment for long periods, they can also contribute to soil and environmental contamination.
The challenge is significant, but so is the opportunity.
By recovering these materials and putting them back into productive use, Vulca is working toward a model where waste becomes a resource.
Building a More Circular Future
Our ambition goes beyond recycling tires.
Vulca is building toward a future where environmental responsibility and economic opportunity work together. Our vision is to operate across Southern Africa, recycle more than 100,000 tonnes of tire waste every year, prevent more than 80,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually, and create hundreds of jobs.
In Zimbabwe, our mission is to transform the tire-waste challenge into lasting economic value while developing durable products, particularly for the construction sector.
This means working with the entire ecosystem around tire waste, from garages and workshops to tire collection points, businesses, municipalities, construction companies, property developers and other partners.
A Different Way of Looking at Waste
Waste is often seen as something that needs to be removed.
We see an opportunity to ask a different question:
What can this material become?
A discarded tire can become part of a paving solution. It can become a vehicle mat. It can become infrastructure. And at a larger scale, thousands of discarded tires can become the foundation of new industries, jobs and environmental solutions.
That is the idea behind Vulca Technologies.
We are not simply recycling tires.
We are rethinking what happens to them next.
As we grow, this blog will share more about our technology, products, circular-economy approach, environmental impact and the people and partnerships helping us build a cleaner, more sustainable future from materials that were once considered waste.
Welcome to Vulca Technologies.
Waste has another life. We are building it.
